Sainte-Blandine
Twelve arms, no two at the same height, all fed from one spine.
Named for the street the atelier has occupied since 1934. The brief came from a chapel restoration: electric light, but nothing that read as electric from the pews.
The arms are bent cold over a wooden former — hot-bending brass of this gauge leaves a flat spot on the outside of the curve that catches light wrong. Cold bending takes eleven passes per arm and about forty minutes. There are twelve arms.
Each arm terminates in a blown glass cup holding a filament candle, and each sits at a different height on the spine, staggered by 30 to 70 mm. The stagger is what stops it looking like a wheel.
